As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and resulting stay at home orders, as well as the shutdown of many businesses and agencies, we understand that some committees had difficulty in meeting the April 15 filing deadline for the March 2020 Quarterly Report. Schedule A-1 filings have also been affected. Due to these extraordinary circumstances, the Board has granted an amnesty period for late filers of the March 2020 Quarterly Report, provided the Report is filed on or before June 30, 2020.
Similarly, penalties will not be assessed for late Schedule A-1 filings due between March 18 and June 30, as long as they are filed on or before June 30, 2020.
Please note that Reports (Quarterly or A-1) filed after June 30 will be subject to statutorily mandated penalties. The Board’s one-time amnesty will not apply to the upcoming June 2020 Quarterly Report, which is due no later than July 15.
As always, please remember that reports filed via postal mail and received after the filing deadline must be postmarked at least 72 hours prior to the deadline in order to be considered timely. Therefore, under this amnesty, any mailed reports should be postmarked no later than June 27.
State Board of Elections offices are now again open to the public, but on a limited basis. Therefore, if you need assistance it is recommended you call the Campaign Disclosure Division at 217-782-4141 (Springfield) or 312-814-6440 (Chicago).
